Historical backgrounds: Briswald & Fitzmurdle

August 15, 2332

Official missive

The names “Briswald and Fitzmurdle” are so well known that they border on cliché, synonymous with adventure and discovery during the turbulent era of pre-Federation galactic exploration. As scientists they are almost exclusively known for their documentation of the Briswald-Fitzmurdle Effect, the importance of which any schoolchild can tell you.

Now, to celebrate the two-hundredth anniversary of that famous scientific milestone, we will be releasing select entries from a set of recently discovered, unpublished journals kept by each of the explorers during their travels. It is our hope that these excerpts will illuminate not just Briswald and Fitzmurdle’s far-ranging impact on science, but also who they were as men: what inspired them, and what it took to pursue scientific inquiry in the past, armed only with archaic instruments and the most rudimentary understanding of space travel. May we all display such passion and dedication to the cause.
